The Caring Heart Community
The Florida Society of Jewish Deaf has established a new volunteer committee called
“The Caring Heart Community Team”. This team will provide both support and resources to
FSJD members in times of need.
Bereavement Team
The death of a loved one is a difficult time with many decisions needing to be made. FSJD
volunteers can help grieving members with guidance and following Jewish tradition where
possible. The bereavement team can offer help by doing the following:
*Help with contacting friends and relatives who can assist with setting up meals, prepare for
the funeral services and helping to arrange a schedule for shiva. (mourning period)
*Send out obituary and shiva announcements to the FSJD community with family permission
*Provide guidance for those helping in the home with tasks such as staying in the house during
the funeral services and coordinating meals from family and friends in the community.

Volunteering Team
Hineni is a Hebrew word that means “Here I Am”. It focuses on being fully attentive,
non-judgmental and emotionally available for members of our FSJD community. There will be
a time in our lives when one of us may need and want support from the FSJD team.
Meals: FSJD volunteers may help coordinate prepared meals for a member who is homebound
Transportation: FSJD volunteers may help coordinate carpools or rides to members in need
Companionship: FSJD volunteers may offer companionship via videophone or a home visit

It is a mitzvah: “a good deed” when Jews do G’milut Chasadim which means loving acts of
kindness without expecting anything in return. Please consider doing a mitzvah and become a
part of our volunteer team.
